One hundred years after the birth of Ernest Hemingway, Michael Palin set out to discover the man behind the legend by travelling to all the places that had shaped the writer's life and informed his writing. The journey led from Hemingway's birth place in Chicago to the Michigan lakes of his childhood, across the Italian front of the First World War to Paris and Spain where his writing career began. The journey continued from his African hunting grounds to his homes in Key West and Cuba, ending in his final resting place in Idaho. The book tells the story of Hemingway's extraordinary life through Michael's personal journey, and is designed by Basil and illustrated with his photographs and archival pictures.
